Late model 4WDs are also particularly susceptible to "rear chassis buckling" due in part to the size and thickness of the chassis and the remarkably high advertised "rated" towing and carrying capacities. Towing and carrying loads that are not ideally distributed can accelerate cracking and failure, which is exacerbated when towing over rough or uneven terrain.
